Four string, red oak through neck, paper cigar box, piezo pickup, sink strainer sound hole, bolt on cedar for the bridge, added latches to the box so that I could open the lid when the strings are off.

  • Thank you, I was happy to have found that sink strainer! The coin is an undated Buffalo nickel, they were in circulation from 1913-1938. I bought the kit from Nickel Cigar Box Guitars, it came with everything you needed to make this beauty including the nickel which I think is a great touch! I added the soundhole, the latches, put the bolt on a piece of wood for a bridge and made it a four string instead of a three. I also added in some supports inside the box. It sure was an experience, I really have no experience with tools or making anything at all. I put pictures up of the whole process on Flickr:
