  • Yeah, his builds are great. I was at his house and saw one hanging on the wall with a black neck and fretboard and was immediately drawn to it. That's when he told me about the vinegar / rust treatment.

    Thanks! I got a small jar of it from Maduro Bob in Hillsborough NC. It looks like it is mostly cider vinegar. He said he made the rust from some fine steel wool. Once the steel wool had rusted, he crumbled it up and mixed it into the vinegar. The mixture reacts with the tannin in the walnut and turns it black. You can still see a little brown in the grain but I like it that way.
