Inside view. Preamp boosts signal from piezo pickups. Has input, output and power switch. Doesn't make a huge increase in volume, but fills out the tone, especially the bass. Doubles as a foot stool while playing too.The amp is one that is intended to be fitted to the instrument, but they are big, clumsy and rather ugly. This way it works with disc piezos or rod piezos and you only need one. It just sits between four blocks of wood inside the box. There is even room to store a couple of spare batteries.

It works OK, but I have to admit that I now use a Behringer PB100 in preference. It has no cigar box cred, but it is a lot more versatile and capable. I suppose I could stick that in a cigar box. Maybe one day.
LOve that idea. I have one of those and have planed on mounting it in a box instead of one guitar but putting the whole thing in the box is brilliant and another elegant solution.
I've just tried it again with the MCube. It certainly makes the sound fuller and richer. It can't quite thump out the bass string notes in the way the full size amp does (an 8" speaker v a 4" one is bound to make a difference. It's shifting about four times as much air), but there is a noticeable improvement (in my view) in the sound. It helps to take off some of those little edgy sounds that you can get with piezos. Having said that I don't think the MCube benefits as much as the big amp does so maybe there is some preamping going on already.
For what they are and the portability advantages those Rolands are fantastic little things. You have to love them for the practicality alone.

Hi Jef.
I'm not familiar with what those are, but I will dig around on the web to find out.
All the best and many thanks.
