I'm leaning more to the gold frets and furniture on the lighter maple wood. I think it gives a nice contrast. I think the stepped head allows you a little more finger room, especially for us hamfisted noobie learners! I have a vinyl cutter in my shop so I can make up all sorts of designs and just "stick 'em" on it all sorts of different colors. I just happen to have a big roll of black.

That stepped neck actually looks to have some functional advantage. Nice contrast with wood grain, black symbols and gold tuners.
