  • Excellent, James.  I love building and can build good ones -sometimes.   Truth told, I most like building them rough and old looking, but good playing.   Some times I fail at that too.

  • Thanks for the critique John. I am lucky to have a luthier friend to turn to when I have questions so I have a bit of an advantage there. The tailpiece does have brass grommets in the near side / far side of the holes, but yea, I kinda boxed myself into a corner with the tuner placement by cutting the headstock to length before placing the tuners.

It's all good - I think I"m enjoying the building and tweaking process more than the learning to play process though!

  • You are welcome, Joe and studying this git it looks like it would play well.   But you can not always tell by looking.  Some really pretty ones suck as players.   The fret job looks excellent.  String height looks just about right.   Good bridge placement.   Good control knob placement.  Small but nice heel joint.  Is there metal in the tail piece holes?  Otherwise, the strings will gouge grooves.  Sharp - maybe a little too sharp angle from the nut to that first tuner.   I think making the head stock longer and placing the tuners a bit further up is usually a good way to go.

I wish I could play for you and I wish you a lot of happy building, playing and tweaking.

  • Thanks Uncle John. I'll definitely be putting the effort into learning to play, it's just that I'm so eager to hear the full potential of my creations - I kind of feel like I'll never be able to do them justice...

That knotlenny video IS great stuff - thanks for pointing that one out.

  • Even purtier the second time.  Joe, I think the easiest and most fun 3 string method is GDg, or DAd, etc.  And go to the top of this page and click on how to play then find knotlenny's CBG101.   Great stuff.

  • Thanks guys! (Now I just have to find someone around here that knows how to play these things.)

  • That is a BEAUTY, Joe.

  • nice  .
