This shows the two stacks of Neo magnets that I used initially. Later, I put in 3 stacks of smaller diameter magnets and a wood filler piece to hold them in place.

OK Pete, here you go. This is through my little bass practice amp with flat EQ settings and no preamp or pedals. The pickup output is fairly weak and definitely need a boost but you can hear the basic tone.
Thanks Randy. I actually used hot glue for a first attempt at this (I used the wrong winding - duh). It does work well but I found that it was difficult to disassemble and troubleshoot during the, uh, R&D phase that I'm in right now.

Hot Glue works well also to keep the magnets in place. This idea was done many years ago " old school ".
