maddog - I've been thinking about that, too. Thinking about cutting off the ears, polishing the ends, then gluing a mounting plate to the back - should be pretty easy to cut a piece of aluminum stock and tap #4 threads into it for underneath mounting. But, the tricky part will be making it look OK where the ears are removed.
Oh! On the F-holes: I found a guy online who makes very nice pickup and f-hole templates out of acrylic. They are thicker than the ones you can get a stewmac (so they work better with router bits), cheaper, and he has a much better variety. I use the acrylic as a master and cut out a fresh template in 1/4" plywood using a dremel with a router attachment and the standard spiral cut blade. Just let the smooth part of the shaft ride along the acrylic. Then, I use the plywood template to do all my actual cutting. This one was his mandolin f hole template and it works perfectly on CBGs and cost $5. Problem is, I can't for the life of me find that page again! I'll email him and ask. His website is here, but not the f-hole templates: http://www.aiguitars.com/luthiertools.htm
She's gonna be a beauty Bob! I love the bass pups also, about the only complaint I have about them is I wish the mounting brackets weren't quite so tall so a guy could hide them under the lid. I have cut them down with the dremel and they work fine but you always see that cut line :-(
