  • Randy, your question was one I thought about before I got started.  I had seen one online that had failed do to warping/weak top. I am going with a neck through body design. This particular door is not Luan, it appears to be maple, the veneer is extremely thin with some kind of paper product on the back side. I'm sure that this thing will have little sound unplugged but let's face it you can stick a mag pickup on a stick and get some decent sound. It would have been easy to just pull the veneers off the door and build a box, I am trying to leave the door intact, it maybe something or it may be an interesting wall hanger.  Either way I have learned something.

  • Just one question...how are you going to brace the inside under the top...I know those bi-fold doors are luan, which isn`t the best tonal wood. But doable !
  • Sorry everyone. My comments didn't appear with the post. I cut it using my old reliable Shopsmith bandsaw. In most woodworking forums you mention that brand and you start a war. I own a lot of woodworking tools but if I was building guitars and was limited in space I would have a Shopsmith with the bandsaw attachment and a few hand tools.
  • Interesting approach Ron! How did you cut out the guitar shape? Band saw or hand held jig saw?
