I may try a preamp on the next piezo pickup I try and see if that helps, too. Grounding the bridge/strings should fix all the crazy noises. Your wire guage and shielding counts as well. I wired this one per schematics I found on the web and it worked well, just a little hum with my hand off of the strings/knobs when plugged into the Peavey.
Hey Paul, on my last build I added a volume control for the first time. I used a simple piezo pickup but the damn thing hummed like crazy unless the volume was turned up all the way. Somebody mentioned that I needed to ground the bridge but my bridge was walnut and corian...no metal at all. have you had any problems like this?? Incidently I sold that guitar so I am now building another one for myself. Anyway, let me know.
Thanks,
Travis
