its a great outlet. The first didj is very special to its builder. This one, which is now 'my didj' was at a market, all shrivelled up and cracked and with a poorly done traditional design. I wrestled the price down to something reasonable. It spent 2 weeks in the bathroom, absorbing moisture slowly, then a week of daily washings. Sand it down nice, but couldn't remove the paint (its an hard wood called mulga) so I painted over it. Problem was hardware store sold me wrong paint, so I scraped it off slowly with a small knife. The resulting pattern looked like lizard skin, so I left it that way. sealed up all the cracks with pure beeswax then varnished with about 4 coats. Beeswax mouth piece and all done. Took a while to find its voice and for it to find mine, but we have 3 now depending on style of play. I've been offered $1200 AUD for it! I have a couple out in the country waiting for their call. I do these traditionally, whch can be a project itself stretching 6 months! If you want to try, please let me know, I have yet to see one made out of American hardwoods and would be happy to guide you through the process :-)
