CYC CBG

Got this beautiful 'Chicago Yacht Club' box from a Minnesota junk shop. The guit is fretless and has one bass string with three standard cbg strings. The bass has its own dedicated cotton reel pickup (like LoweBows) and is covered with electrical tape to stop clanking! A 4-string Elmar Zeilhofer flatpup completes the set up. The neck, which reflects a yacht's deck was due to a mistake! I cut the original too narrow for the four strings and had to inset the black hardwood! Highlighting again the creativity of incompetence!

  • Thanks for your kind comment, Cameron.

The bass string is tuned to G, then the usual GDG for the others.

  • What do you tune the bass string to? I was wondering about the extra output 1/4 jack but that makes sense. Love the happy mistake on the neck

  • You're very kind John. I like Nigel's vid, it gave me some ideas and, you never know, I might get a vid out myself one day!

  • One of the coolest.   Neck especially looks great.

Huh. Just today, Nigel McTrusty made a vid with a similarly strung instrument.   I made one a while back without the special pickups.    Truthfully, I did not know what to do with mine once it was done.
