This is my home made aluminium jack plate, custom sized to suit the box and corner protectors I want to use. I sanded it with 600/1000/1500/2000 grit wet and dry then mirror polished on the mops (sisal, stitched then loose stitched, green and blue compounds) then gave it a final clean up and buff with some Autoglym metal polish. Time consuming, yes, but I really enjoy doing the detail work and it all adds up, hopefully, when the build comes together.

Cheers Dave, really pleased with how it turned out. Not as big a job as some of the classic motorcycle restoration work I've done over the years.....thankfully! When I was in the trade, I helped my boss out with a few bikes from his collection, one of which was a nice Honda 400/4. I did the engine cam cover for him, as well as the wheel hubs and a few other parts. The cam cover (see pics below) took me three weeks by hand....I had no fingers left!!! The trick here was to achieve a factory finish, i.e. not 'too' shiny or mirror polished but as it should have looked when it left the factory. The second pic shows it in situ on the bike. Good to have transferable skills, as we all know, and it's fun using techniques from other disciplines for building cbg's.
