I take a blank piece of computer copy paper & trace the outline of the end of the box onto it. This is done with the lid closed to the cigar box. I then trim out that outline of the computer paper and make sure it is square with the box as I cut the lines on it. I then fold this piece of paper in half once it is trimmed off from the computer paper sheet. Once folded in half, I then cut an angled cut or V cut right at the center of the template. When unfolded, it give an exact mark for finding the center of the cigar box as a template to make any neck hole with. I put the template into my box and save it with a template for the wood to be used as the neck. I keep a small piece of the hardwood for the neck with the box to make a similar template with. Once this small template if made, it too can be folded in half and use to mark the edges to be cut on the neck hole to the cigar box. I keep the block of wood, the box template and the wood template all inside the box until I am ready to construct another CBG. It is all there and ready to go when needed. This simplifies me having to tax my brain in using any math to find the exact center lines for the tail piece, neck or box, itself. I can have all of this ready in advance for future guitars.
