  • Cool, I've been using the K&K but I bought 10 of the 27mm transducers to see how they sound. EQ'ing these transducers is critical to their tone.
  • Hi I was recently running the sound system at a folk festival. One of our guests brought a Kala Ubass it had an under the bridge passive system of four small piezo transducers one for each string. It had a great sound once I had balanced the piezo transducers to the input of the Marshall bass amp.
  • Owen Holt of Roadtoadmusic has been making bass ukes for a while now, I contacted Owen a few years back because of the Polyurethane strings he came up with and asked him if it was possible to convert a Uke to bass. He sent me a couple of paragraphs on how to do it. He had to have the tuners modified to take the poly "E" string. It is my understanding that Kala buys the tuners, strings and sources the transducers from Owen. The transducers are the K&K pure western bass transducers. I have just purchased 10 of the 27mm transducers off eBay so I can do a little research and see how they compare. The K&Ks are nice, I've used four sets of them, but I don't know what the difference is between them and off the shelf unwired transducers. I really haven't found any information yet that indicates there is any real difference between transducers other than their size.

In my opinion, biased of course, my little basses smoke the Kala, but then mine are set up for me and tweaked for my friends that have had to have them.
  • Great! Oh yeah - planning one of those myself. The Kala ones sound pretty good, but I think their piezo system is quite sophisticated. How do these sound?

  • SWeet!!
