My latest achievement (he said with more than a touch of iroony!)It'a a great cb, sounds terrific, even with the stick going all the way through and the box itself being pretty narrow. The bridge is cut from a piece of 1/4" red oak, the saddle is one of stewmac's fake bone thingies. Ace hardware furnished the sheet metal for the tailpiece. Stick is glued inside the box lid, so it can still be opened. Frets are toothpicks ( I gave up on the fret wire I tried to install). The instrument can only be fretted a few tones above the nut - action too high after that. There is certainly some "finishing" to be done, but it's essentially complete. Helpful comments for future builds are appreciated. Thanks, all!

  • Thanks, Hermit, for  your suggestion.  Yeah, I could have added a separate fretboard to raise the overall height.  But it seemed like it would be too bulky.  As it is, that extra piece on the tuner head doesn't look that great, but I needed it.  But as you say, I'm learning something.

  • Whoops.......i meant to add that you could try raising your fret board height above the box, this will help you achieve a lower action across the board.

Other than that you seem to be doing fine, besides its better to learn by making mistakes than to do everything perfectly and not learn anything!! (if that makes any sense?).
