Ceramic body concept.This small, 16" scale 3 stringer is made from scraps.Neck us poplar, head oak, rosewood frets, Paduk markers, Paduk nut & bridge, India ink is the stain on the head, the sound board is oak plywood and the body is custom glazed (inside and out).

    I might try putting a rod piezo in the bridge (in assuming you put a disc piezo in the body).  I think the rods reduce the harshness (versus a disc), and give a truer tone.

  • This was an experiment to see how using a ceramic body would work. After building canjos no gourd guitars, this was a natural next step...
    It is small, so the sound is somewhere between a Uke and Banjo. It has nylon strings and piezo. I think it sounds OK acoustically, but when amped, I'm not impressed. I think I should have covered the piezo more and not glazed the inside. My feeling is that there is a lot of sound bouncing around in the small, shallow body. A bigger body will probably produce a better sound. I want to make a larger version and see. I was pleased with the overall design, but I want to refine the overall shape. It was a good learning experience.
