I'll give that a try. I think the main thing is the speaker can only take so much output from the amp. I have an oval shaped speaker that is a little larger than the one show, and that would probably work better, but I would need a bigger box.
You could try isolating the speaker from the box so it doesn't vibrate the top any more than it has to. maybe a bushing made from neoprene or something like that.
Yes, there is feedback if I turn the volume up over a certain point, about half way on the scale. I suspect this is due to the size of the speaker, and possibly in part because I used a piezo pickup. Next build, I may add an extra speaker in parallel and use a magnetic pickup.
