CBG 9 - Padron Paddle

I do like the way the head turned out on this. I wasn't planning on the string retainer at first, but I think it does add to the design.

  • Thanks Mike!  I made the string retainer from a piece of 1/8" brass rod from the local hardware store, and a pair of little ferrule/washers from brass "cup hooks" - also from the same hardware store. At first I was a little concerned about the string tension pulling it up out of the head. To stop that, I used a file to cut a couple grooves near each end of the brass rod and coated it with epoxy before pushing it into the wood. Seems to hold it all in place very tightly now.
  • This looks great.  Where did you get the string retainer from?
  • I gotta get me some of that tung oil and try it out!
  • Thanks!  The fretboard is made from a piece of 1/8" x 24" lacewood I picked up at the local Woodcraft store. I was able to get two necks (one 4 string and one 3 string) out of the single piece. I finished all the wood including the cigar box with a couple coats of tung oil.
  • Very nice work! Has a nice look. That fret board is beautiful!
