Cajon Box Drum

Took a slight detour between builds and made my first Cajon. Plywood box and sound board, green tint and tru oil finish. Makes a surprising number of different sounds, now I just need to work on my rhythm!

  • Thanks Jock, the green was a little oil paint mixed into some truoil. I did try a homemade snare using a guitar string running in diagonal rows in one corner, saw it online somewhere. It didn't work well for me, I am going to add a drum snare instead.
  • That's a nice cajon mate. I especially like the green finish. I built one myself some years back to save moving the whole drum set around. Great fun to play, and yes the rage of tones is surprising.

    Does yours have an internal snare?

  • Thanks Unc.  I found a few how to videos, just another thing to mess around with. 

  • Very nice.  Glad it sounds good.  I have one built too and play it some when my playing buddy comes over.  I kind of lack rhythm but try.  Often, I kind of tap in time to the way I would strum a guitar.
