This was an old build with a piezo. I 'upgraded' with the chrome mag pup from Gitty. I installed the pup, cut a hole in the license plate and then tested it before stringing it up. It had quite a bit of BUZZ or HUM. It worked- plugged with in with a different guitar strummed close to the pickup. With helpful suggestions from nation friends, I tried grounding it to the tail piece. Still buzzed. Then I tried a battery amp. No buzz. It turned out I had a bad surge protector. Plugged into a good outlet, no hum.Moral to the story: if a pickup hums, it might be the electrical outlet.

Thanks, James. In this case, the real item does not look quite as nice as the photo. But I like it. Okay, after what you said, I had better get out and replace the surge protector.

Well you followed the right trouble shooting steps, who would have guessed a bad outlet. Bet screams now.
Looks good and glad it worked out John! I know all to well the ungrounded outlet drama.
