Michael, i believe this is just the cheapest spft timber in the hardware store here in Hong Kong, its probably poplar. I think it was $3 a piece for a 8 footer. I recently salvage a few really nice 2 x2 hardwood from a container depot for free. I reckon that should be strong enough to hold 6 strings....
Kenneth, thanks, that the exact arrangement i picked up from Crow's tutorial supplemented by Michael's write up. And overall it kicks the first one i did (the resonator looking cbg behind the blackie)
