At this point I was pretty satisfied with my building skills so I embarked on a it of a commercial venture. I wanted to set my guitars apart from others that were advertised on ebay. License plate guitars were popular but I didn't have any, out of cigar boxes too. I was finishing a home renovation and salvaged some of my 30 year old cedar siding. I made a series of cedar boxes sized to fit the reproduction tin signs I found on ebay. Maple necks, jatoaba fret boards. vilolin tranducer and single volume control. I built them with a neck through body design and a cabinet corner bracket for support, 1/8" birch ply back and a bit of torch work for "Smokin' Guitars" effect!A couple coats of satin spray varathane to seal things up.
These all sound and play about the same, which is definitely due to the size and volume of the box. Sold on ebay.
