Bertha, the 3-string bass. Taking votes for the layout. I'm leaning towards the middle one... because nobody in their right mind would mount a control plate vertically.

No worries there Pick. It's a 14.5" box and will be a bass (so no strumming involved). With the middle set-up, from the edge of my hand (playing in palm-muting position) to the controls I measured 4", so there's plenty of room.
But it's a moot point now because I remembered that I had some scrap metal I'd forgotten about. lol
Top one is safest bet for play-ability . depending on playing style,. i think in most cases your picking arm would hit your 3 way switch alot (#2) .. and/ or snag on the letters of the 3D script in the #3 example .
But that's just my free opinion / advice ,..... and possible worth every penny ;-)
