Bent back

Here is an (bad?) example of a bent back. Not sure it makes that much of a difference in the sound, though probably helps a little but could increase the comfort of a homemade guitar or cello not feeling so boxy in your arms.

    Had a gamba before. Building a cheap version now for a weird tuning for fun.

    That body looks it is part of the violin/viol family...especially because of the ornate decoration. Such instruments were designed to be played vertically sitting on a knee. Hence 'viol da gamba'='leg viol'
