  • From what I've read, carvin had all sorts of not-options sold over the years. Thanks.

  • Yep sure was a looker. I was going to pain it silver mist metallic. Ended up painting my first homebuilt electric "strat" that color.

Possibly they had an 87 left over they hadn't sold out of yet? They could have thrown on a new label on old stock. The end result is you have an awesome project.

  • That sounds like it was a looker; any guitar is worth $10. Broken, even. As long as it has tuning machines.

  • It's a maple "set neck" in a maple body. Theoretically they discontinued that option in 87, but I have the new 88 logo on the headstock... Somebody got the new logo early or the old body late.  I'm still guessing it's an 88.

  • LOL, have fun. I was just remembering a flying V "$10" special I had years ago. The bulk of the body was mahogany and the legs were alternating "stripes" of maple and mahogany. Was never a maker on that one so I couldn't place it. The wood had split and was gouged so it was good for painting. I just never finished and sold it on ebay. Kinda wish I would have kept it now. Oh well.

  • I think I am going to go look up some neck thru electric guitars. You got me wondering.

  •  Yes, I know to tape ebony :)    It's got a visible joint right at the heel of the neck. I guess I didn't say that. Lol. I meant to say that; just got distractred I suppose.

  • You're fine. That's typical construction for a neck through by gluing multiple pieces of wood together as far as my experience. I would think that it would be rare for a truly one piece neck through guitar to exist and it would be way expensive as a new piece. The fingerboard will be glued on, usually by a hide glue. You won't want to remove it anyway. Just tape it up. The only fingerboards typically sprayed over are maple. Not trying to step on toes if you already know, but a good conversation for those looking on who want to learn. :)

  • Actually, counting the fingerboard and the shim on the body beneath the fingerboard (because of its angle) it's 5 pieces of wood. The neck is one and the body is in two halves.  I just didn't want to risk the perfectly level factory fretboard, so I left it. I assume the way to take the neck off is under it.  It's not what I think of as a bolt on though.

  • How awesome BT, Didn't realize it was neck thru.
