Where are all the Cigar Box Banjos? Well here's my first ever banjo build which I completed a couple of weeks ago. Never even held one before! Open back style 'dog bowl', inset into two rings made of wood from an old futon with contrasting 'fill ins'. The skin is a 3 litre cider bottle tacked on with upholstery pins and heat shrunk flat. Vegetable strainer tailpiece (she had thrown it out, honest!). Decoration of the sides, neck and peghead is wood burnt with the shaded areas on fret board sprayed with ink from an air brush. Hope to put up a vid of the sound but I have a long way to go clawhammerwise! Initial sound test: the 'skin' seems too loud (will try to damp it somehow) and it is not as loud as the Qzark 2113G that I've just received for Christmas but it's so much fun for $25 and a bit of time!
