    Mouser electronics online is a good parts source, let me dig through some boxes, I think I have a few extra LM386 amps laying around gathering dust

    I looked at the Gem and Ruby info. Looks great, especially the Ruby. Where do I get such components? The board? The photo of the Ruby makes her look like I could manage it.

    Thanks Jerry. I will find your info very useful! I've got about 10 used speakers waiting for testing and use. Two of them have tiny pin holes around the outer perimeter. Will they blow the sound. Can it put a drop of glue on each one?

    Speaker polarity won't damage components, but the wrong polarity sounds bad, because the coil moves in the wrong direction.

    On Speakers from old radios, intercoms etc. can I just experiment by touching wires to see if it works. Can I damage the board and components if I don't get the polarity right? Stereo speakers ok? I just got a Heathkit amp. I need to add a speaker and change the input from a mono turntable to guitar Jack. I think it will make a nice amp. I don't know what ohm speaker is right. Any tips guys. Thanks for the info Chris and Jerry. I look at the little gems...

    9v busker amps based on the 386 chip are actually pretty common projects for the diy musician.  Many members of this very website are building them.  This one is a Little Gem.  Schematic here: http://www.runoffgroove.com/littlegem.html

    You do need to know some basic electronics, but I learned what I needed to by searching the internet and then picking the brain of an expert.  It also pays to be able to scrounge a little.  I don't know where to buy small speakers, and just about all of the ones I've got I scavenged from discarded electronics.
