AGP's Vintage Zither Restoration Project

Fitted the last String on AGP’s Vintage 5 Chord Zither Restoration Project today 5th February 2023, Bastard of a thing to Tune, but when I do get the Time & Patience to do it, I will try and post a Sound Sample, although I have no idea what so ever about how to play it.Probably to the disgust of the Purists and Knockers, I didn’t replace some of the missing Bronze Wound strings, but used Nickel Wound Bass and 6 String Guitar strings instead, which I had on hand, SO!, it is what is! :-)

  • Picked this one up pretty cheap Tim, at, $48.05AUD/$33.05USD, done the restoration just to see if I could make something that was in pretty bad shape, into a playable instrument, it did take a little bit of time and thought, but for the purchase price, and the cost of replacing the missing strings, along with a bit stain & polish, Yes!, it probably was worth the effort, but having said that, it will more than likely join the other 430+ Cigar Box Guitars & Instruments I have, sitting away in storage, and hardly ever being played. :-D

  • I've got one almost exactly like that but looks like a different brand. Mine says "Menzenhauers". Been thinking about restoring it also. Let me ask you...was it worth it?
