Thanks for the explanation Alan! I guess I’m boring going with GD for almost all my chuggers although I have done some short scale CG ones with fishing line. Using flourocarbon fishing line has finally allowed me to get GD with a relatively short 23” scale length. I find switching between the tunings for the same songs difficult to pull off.
I have considered DG tuning with a really short scale length made possible by a flourocarbon D string. That’s a project that probably won’t happen anytime soon, if at all.
"Thanks Doug", Yes!, when you can get a cut of Camphor with the dark grain, it really is gorgeous, however some parts of the log can be a bit on the plain side, but still looks nice, there will be a build or two done soon with the plain pieces.
The story with the Dg Tuning is, that it's the high 2 strings of the usual CBG Tuning of the open GDg chord, this Build is the 16th 2 String Chugger I currently have, and mostly, but!, not always, they are tuned to the high 2 Strings of an open 3 String Chord.
The 16 Chuggers vary in Scale Length from 32" to 22", 4 are tuned to Dg, 3 are tuned to Ad, and the other tunings are, AE, BE, CG, Cf, GD, GC, gG, and Ee.
So!, as you can see, it's a wild and varied bunch of Chuggers, all with their own unique quirks, especially the last 2 with the same High & Low Tunings, which are a lot of fun to play around with. :-)

That wood is gorgeous Alan! I love the interesting grain and coloring.
What is the story on DG tuning?
