AGP #502 - ''Davidoff'

AGP #502 – “Davidoff”4 String Fretless Cigar Box Guitar584.2mm / 23 inchesStrings : .034NW/.022PS/.017PS/ .011PSTunings: C G c gSomething a little different from #AGP, I don’t do many actual Cigar Box Builds these days, especially 4 Stringers, and haven’t Rounded the back of a Neck for a while, so after seeing and hearing a lot of good things about the Shinto Rasps used by other builders, I finally purchased one, and used it on this Build, Luv it, a bit quicker than the Spoke Shave I usually use.The “Davidoff” Cigar Box was bought a few months back along with a “Partagas” Box (which is currently on the bench) for $21.25 each, which is cheap by our Aussie Cigar Box Starved Country’s Standards. The Neck is Tasmanian Oak, recycled of course!, the Box and Neck were given 3 coats of what is known as Waxy Button Shellac.A 9.1k Humbucker is wired through Vol and Tone to the Output Jack. :-)

  • When I first started rounding the Necks, I used a 45 degree Router Chamfer Bit to remove the bulk of the Neck edge, and then round it off with a Spoke Shave and Cabinet Scarper, but as you say, I then got lazy and just left the chamfered edge as it was. :-D

  • Glad to hear the Shinto Rasp is working well for you Alan. I used to use a cheap rasp, files, and a lot of sanding to round my necks, now I use a round-over bit on my router. I’ll admit it, I’m a lazy builder.
