Adjustable bridge idea

I made this out of aluminum to get the idea off of paper. Seems like it will work and after working out a few little bugs (and finding the 3rd spring that fell on the floor) I'll probably use steel for the final product. My goal was to use only parts that could be picked up at the local hardware store. Nothing special.

  • thanks for the measurements, mmm seems like I'd just be able to do it height wise then...BUT I've realised I'd have another problem! Where the bridge is now is only about 2cm for the end of the box, and it needs to go further back towards the end of the box so I wouldn't have any room fo the length of the bridge : -/
  • Keeping it simple was my goal! Here's a few numbers on this particular bridge. I made this one to refit my beast and the action is fairly high on it. i use it more for slide so it works for me. I'm not really good with metric but I'll give it a shot. The height from the box to the top of the bridge is around 9mm. To get 5 or 6 mm I would use 3/16" or 4.85mm dia.rod. That would put it with the plate thickness right around 6mm. You could lower it more by cutting a string slot or file a flat on the bottom of the round stock and the bridge would still work the same as far as setting intonation. I made this one for 1/2" (12.70mm for everyone across the pond!) string spacing although it probably would work on something a little closer together.
  • Leo would be proud.
  • mmm interesting, simple but looks like it would work!.......how high is it? I don't think I'd have enough height to do this idea on the CBG I've got issues with as there's only about 5 or 6mm between the box and the top of the bridge that's on it, and I wouldn't want it lower as the action is already really high....
