If you don't want to use as a template, you could remove this piece from the frame and glue it or screw it down in place on the box, instead. I plan to use it as a template and it is easy to flip over or even flip the ends of the piece to change the look of the piece on the box lid. You old builders probably already have done this at some point, but I had not seen it and I leg my imigination go a bit wild in how to use it when I saw it at the hardware store. Heck, I even picked up a box of 0.22 cal. powder load shells which I plan to use for either neck markers or fret markers in a future build. (I'll safely remove the powder and all first, though). I saw a brass latch for a pocket slide door that looks like it can easily be adapted for a cord jack plug setup, but ran out of mad money and didn't pick it up. I saw a really neat antique copper piece that was basically a circle for a celing hook. Very intricate pattern that would have made a great sound hole piece (Don't recall the name of the part and they didn't have a brite brass one in stock). Like say, I ran out of mad money and the part was the wrong color for my needs, but it sure looked cool though. Sometimes it is just fun to head on down to the hardware store and let you noodle run wild in seeing what may work to serve other purposes, huh? :-)
