Do what Bob said, fill top with glue, but glue a strip of wood on the underside. I’d use a tongue depressor or a popsicle stick to keep things on the thin side, so you won’t loose too much vibration across the top? Easy fix, don’t trip! Good luck :)
An old trick used to be to fill the split with sawdust and clear glue, then maybe then add a finish of light wood stain on top. Just a thought.
Smear of good, strong wood glue with thin piece of wood underneath is the option I would probably initially consider if that's do-able.
