60's Kent Polaris

When this arrived two days ago it had thick black paint on the body and neck. The cover plate had silver paint gooped over it, the knobs included. A day of stripping and a day of sanding revealed the solid Mahogany body (one plank). The neck is Maple. I've left residue of the original sunburst around the edges.

  • Thanks fellas, finding a good guitar out of a junker is very satisfying. I've got two more in the works. A Tele and the Teisco with the striped control plate. Both have their necks and neck plates. The Tele has giant tuner holes. I don't have any such in my tuner drawer. I like hunting down stuff for this rebuilding process. Frankensteining.... I got the necks off ebay a couple of days ago and both fit perfect in regards holes and plates.

  • thats one special lil guitar ye got there!

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

    ;-)

  • Ya, from ebay JP. It was so horrible screwed up by the paint job, i got it pretty cheap. The bet was that the pups still worked. The best part was everything worked. The paint coming off the control knobs without melting them was the very best part. and that the plate is nice metal with very few scratches. In each of the three instruments, the pickups all worked. They just had broken or misplaced wires, cold solder joints, one bad switch, one bad pot. All the wiring was already there which was very instructive. I could find where the broken wiring was by looking for the solder blob on a pot or jack. The rest was just cosmetic with a cleaning, light sanding (except the Polaris), and a little rub on varnish. Two of the three needed new nuts and bridges. I cut some dog bone for nuts a little while ago and that worked great. I've been supplying bridges off ebay as well as pots, etc.

  • That is gorgeous!   Nice find!   Where from?  ebay?
