6 string Bitza

Built to try out the twin string idea a la mandolin. Nearly all made from bits o' this and that. 6" square box, walnut neck, oak fretboard, beech scarf headstock. 21.5" scale tuned dDGGBB. 4 pole pickup. Bolts are used for nut and bridge in order to separate the string courses. Bottom D course has thick 'n thin strings tuned octave apart (12 string style), but I might just remove the thin one as its not doing much.

  • Nice concept and build.

  • Yes, the thin D string didn't work. so I replaced it with another thick D in unison. All sounds great now.

  • Interesting.  You're probably right about the thin D string.

  • Interesting. I like DGB tuning a lot. So easy to play in the key of G and not bad in others. I tried the double string thing once, but it has been so long I forget what I tried. Ah, maybe I remember. I like to pick out melodies on single or paired strings and I think it didn't sound right to me at the time with octave apart strings. I wish I could test ride this one of yours.
