I've made a shallower bore and encased the piezo in silicone in the neck, but you get more volume out of it silicone to the plate. It helps if you are playing thru a small, battery powered amp. It's easy enough to try both placements and see which you like better.
I make a 1/4" deep relief with a 1-1/4" forstner bit in the neck at the bridge location, then silicone the piezo to the back of the plate centered on the relief cut. I encase the piezo completely in the silicone. Wetting your fingers lets you get it really smooth.
Very nice pair. I want to make one for my son with a Dallas Cowboys plate. It's his favorite team. How do the Piezo's sound and where did you mount them?
