Picture hanger tail piece again - I'm going to try carving a piece to hide the screw heads.

  • Thanks for the link - I hadn't seen that one before. Very cool idea!
  • thats a great idea.. I terminated the strings thru the heal of the neck with a washer... not very imaginative but it does the job.
do they tend to remain tight? i imagine with the string tension they do.

here's a fella who used a bulldog clip, looks like he cut it in half and flattened it out. it looks like a decent piece as far as strength and being he found an antique clip adds to the ad hoc-ness.

thanks for sharing the info, greatly.
  • I've been using picture hangers to hold the strings. I clip and grind off the hook and drill a hole for the screw. I tried terminating the strings at an acrylic bridge once but it cracked under tension. I've seen one method of using pop rivet heads glued into the front face
  • Thanks for your response. i'll look for the drawer pull, it is interesting as a detail.
one other question, the string termination at the tail... something made or something found?
Noticed on one of the boxes this detail was brass, a future detail design will be looking to make the string receiver acting/built into the bridge.
    thanks for sharing.
  • Thanks! I've been using acrylic plexiglass for nuts and bridges on most of my builds, and the sound quality is great (to my ear anyway). I did one build with a bolt and didn't really notice any quality difference - the piezo's still get a good tone transfer. The jack is recessed inside of a 3/4" cup drawer pull from Lowes. On this one I expoxied it into the box, but on my latest one I put a large flat washer between the jack and the inside of the box to hold it all in place. The other shiny part is a screw head cover to hide where I mounted the tail end of the neck to the bottom of the box. I'm planning to replace it with a drilled coin style strap hanger one of these days.
  • is that plexi for the nut and Bridge? I thought of that but have not made one yet, hows the sound compared to just a bolt?
can you elaborate on the tail detail? did you fab those or are they found parts?
    very nice guitars...
