  • Im also glad i decided to use poplar on this build as its nice and light. I didnt realise how heavy the box was but it gives it a real nice balanced feel.
  • Yup and strong too on the poplar.   I need to use finer sandpaper when I use it.   (usually, I use 80 then 100.)  Getting in a building mood.

  • Not too mention poplar is super cheap, although i find that it sands a little too easy and is really easy to gouge with the sander. Free wood stain is always great. I think i got four or five full tins the last time i went down to the recycling center plus thinners, varnish and some cool paint colors. My other fav stain is just simple olive oil.
  • Great Idea on kind of repurposing stains.   I kind of undervalue poplar.  It is kind of the classic cbg neck and easy to shape and can look real nice.  I think I lack the 'sand it enough' gene.

  • Thanks, its a poplar neck with red oak "wings" on the headstock and fret board. Not sure what the exact stain is but found it at our local recycling centre where the give away part used cans of paimt and stain. May still add a coat or two of poly to seal it up.
  • Pretty grain and stain.
