  • I find lap style easier than bottleneck slide. The strings are raised to keep you from hitting frets with the bar. You can use a heavy bar if you wish. It sounds the smoothest and cleanest. I'm using a light old Oahu bar now as my hand is old and achy. I'm trying to learn bottleneck with a nice metal body Gretsch. It has a low action and a round neck. You have to have a light touch and hold your fretting hand with the thumb under the neck. It's a big change for an old dog like me. you'll have great fun with all your roster of guitars to make your own. Enjoy! ... Dave
  • I never tried playing lap style, still trying to get my fingers to pluck the right strings, lots more practice needed lol. Im getting better at not over shooting the frets with a slide though.
On some of these old folk guitars I am shaving the necks down a bit but I think I'll save one for a lap guitar...should be fun.
  • Some great candidates there Brian. I've been doing the same thing lately. I love it. I'm making Faux resonators as well. Just a cover plate on them, no cone or spider or biscuit. The old classicals you have are the perfect guitar to convert. The bridge falls at the right spot for a reso and the neck is nice and wide and flat. I play lap style slide.
