When you get the action down on a bridge like this to a point where the nut wheels that bring the action up are taking up height, the only cure is to remove the wheels to lower the action all the way down to ground zero. Then the wheels get lost and there you have it. You may want to add a thin shim to the tail side of the neck pocket to gain a little neck angle to allow for adjusting with wheel nuts again. They still sell these at good hardware stores. I've been making pick guards out of wood and with good result. I like the look.

Because the bridge just sits on two pegs and has no way to adjust the action. Either that or its not the original bridge. The other day I had to heat and bake the pick guard to flatten it because it was so warped. That turned out pretty good. It definitely a project.
Nice guitar Barry. The fix should be very easy. 5 minute job if you just clamp the pocket and use Tightbond. I like tightbond because you can undo your work if you need to by using heat to soften the glue. Epoxy, gorilla glue etc. are more permanent. Remember the neck provides a lot of bracing for the neck pocket as well as visa versa. The neck would probably hold this together without any glue at all. If the screws arent stripped they are very strong. If you don't see the crack on the back it might not go through the plywood body. The body may just have a seam down the middle joining two planks. Try a gentle sqeeze with a clamp across the waist and at the neck pocket to see if the crack closes before gluing up. Good luck.... Dave
