Upon request I've put more windings on the coils: 5000 and 6000. And they are still flat!The etched pattern was taken from a drawing of Gustav Klimt.

Hi Elmar, i've got a situation that begs for your flatpups. I've got kind of a mixmatch problem. One is your old standard with a black frame. The other is an "art decco" prototype with brass and green plastic dots. The guitar requires a slim pup as there's no pockets for them. It's a surface mount situation. I could cut pockets, but if i can i don't like to alter the old body relics. Your pups will work perfect for the situation. I'm thinking of adding a thin plastic clear plate over the raw coils one. Will this affect the sound? I'd love to use two of your etched beauties, but i doubt if i've got enough moolah for the effort. What do these babies go for? Six pole.... Dave

thanks! best of all: it's easy to etch with saltwater. And salt is easily available ;-)
The way to do it is
* to get a black/white image
* print it out on a laserprinter
* transfer the toner to the clean brass surface with an iron (see instructionals on youtube)
* cover the backside with paint or adhesive tape
* connect it to "+" of a DC power source
* drop it into saltwater
* connect a steel scouring pad to "-" and drop it into the saltwater
* switch on the current, the voltage is to find out empirically
* etch it for let's say 10mins, brush off the guck from the etching surface from time to time
Warning. I don't know whether this process is poisonous. Don't drink the muck.
