#20 Diddley Bow fret markers

I tried airbrush for a white fret marker. It worked OK. Still have some MOP dots to add. I think that will happen on the side of the neck. Next time i'll use water based white. The enamel i used is a little transparent. Cleanup was the only hassle with the fumes and cleaning. Water base will be better.

  • Hi Glenn, as it's a slide guitar, i don't think the finish will be affected too bad in use. The action is very high so I won't do anything but slide my fingers on the fretboard. It's enamel with min-wax poly varnish over it on African Mahogany. I have several old lap steels that have painted fingerboards and they have held up since the 40s and 50s. There is wear around the picking area, but those guys used fingerpicks. I use bare fingers. I like the mellow sound.

  • Very cool! How will you protect the finish?

  • Thanks guys, I like working with airbrush. I did it for a job for many years as an illustrator at a publishing house. I was an art director/illustrator for most of my real career. Now i can have fun with my old tools.
