    The name for the inserts are splined mitre joints.  The splines are oak and the box is black walnut.

    Nice overall.  Like the double color neck, the heel, heel surround.  Especially like the box corner inserts.  Nice work.  I forget the proper name for those.  Can you tell me?  And is that box walnut or gum?
