After I started, I knocked the first box off my work bench. It cracked at where I notched out for the neck. The boxes are not the thickest or the best wood, but they were very cheap at the auction.I salvaged the cracked box's bottom and attached it with dowels on two sides to make a double bottom.Inside, under the neck, is a Petsmart stainless cat dish about the size of a pot pie pan. When I attached the second bottom, I put about an inch long piece of dowel in the center as a support.I punched the center of the stainless cat dish with a ten penny nail and used a size 4 x 1/12" wood screw to attach the dish through the the bottom of the box into the peice of dowel in the center.Wonder of wonders, it makes guitar sounds. I still have some work to do. I have to rasp out the nut and bridge channels as they are too high and apply a finish coat. After reading the warning on the Danish Oil's can about spontaneous combustion, MinWax here I come.
