The coat hanger I have was made with a (relatively) heavy and strong steel wire, was a little hard to bent. I had more problems to bent properly the wire (I used a locking plier and a bench vise) than to make the adjustments for balance (the weight of wire helped on this) and comfort. In the end, my harp holder fits very well (recently I played guitar and harp on a gig with a friend's blues band -unfortunately, no cbg here- and used the harp holder on 6 songs, without any troubles) and looks nice.   Yes, it is. After some adjustments, that thing fits well in my neck and doesn't harm my harp. My goal here is play with almost 100% homemade stuff...
