Instead of using the spatula, drill two holes near the end of the neck, thread the string through a washer, then through the hole, then over a cotter pin "nut". Now you have a "headless" neck, and the string will be anchored well, and not through the "springy" spatula. Don't use the pencil as a nut, the action will be too high. Use a nail or screw. If you thread it as such, the spatula will "flex", and not stay in tune. Richard in Tennessee..
