The tail piece is also a concho. I drilled three small holes in it, and put a grounded copper plate on the bottom of the lid to ground the strings. One design flaw that I just discovered is by going through the lid, when you tighten the strings it does pull the lid forward, so I just added a couple of clasps on the bottom-side of the box to see if that will keep it stright. If it doesn't I'll try something else. The hardest part of the fix is keeping it looking good :)
