Soldering tips anyone?

Does anyone have any soldering/resoldering tips when finishing up their pickups? I tried lightly sanding the wire before soldering, but it's tough! It's also difficult to hold and control the thin wire while soldering.

What went wrong

I wound two coils for a humbucker before they coils were put into the PUP they measured 4.6&4.3k Ohm. Installed the PUP sounds weak so I remeasured and now I get 4k and .6k. This can't be normal what could be going on?
