Hi from sunny San Diego.

I started making CBGs about two years ago. I make them and give away to friends. I've made 5 guitars and 1 bass. I was playing this afternoon on the street (just for fun) and someone mentioned this site and wanted to know if I was on it. I said I thought I was, but later realised that was a different site.

So I signed up. I am pretty impressed so far. My style of building is trying to make them the cheapest as possible. I think I am down to about $12-15 (including the pickup). All fretless and tuned for slide. I also have made some purses for my wife out of smaller cigar boxes. She loves them.

Take care, and hope to meet some of you.

  • For the pickup I use a piezo transducer from radio shack. For the tuners I go to local guitar shops and ask to pick through their scraps. I can usually pick up a hand full of hardware for a few bucks.

  • Welcome I'm kinda new here too. I agree with keeping it simple although I can't resist painting the ba-jeepers out of em. I guess if the build is simple and sturdy the painting is where the fun begins (4 me anyway)
  • Hey David & welcome. My philosophy about keeping price point low is similar to yours. Its about fun building & playing. If i wantyed a Les Paul I'd go buy one. I DO respect the guys that go hog wild with their builds too - just not where my head is at. Have fun & welcome agian - Roy
  • welcome welcome -- you'll find the cheapo-gems in here and some sick over-the-top builders... I dig your bridge in the pic...similar to the 'custom' string retainer on mine. will be cool to see your work. ET
