I'm like you MM. Think I could count on one hand the days I haven't picked one up and played it since I got my first ones 3 years ago.

I'd love to see a video of you playing...don't worry about it having to be of a certain standard. I love to watch people on here and see how they develop...

I sit and play my cbgs every day.  If I don't, I go into withdrawal.  I've not been able to build as much as I would have hoped (damned fibromyalgia) but I am getting some done at a slower pace than my original goals.  But the playing really has me know, and I am getting to the point where playing within earshot of others is not embarrassing me, and is bringing me pleasure.  I don't play a lot of traditional blues, but do a great bit of classical guitar on some that I have setup for finger style playing,  the tones that come out of these instruments goes deep into my soul, and it's really cool and heartwarming to know that I am creating these sounds myself.  That lifts my spirits.  Anything that lifts my spirits is a good thing, and these little treasures do it in spades.  My goal is to get brave enough to do a YouTube video one of these days.

That is really huge, Lonman!  Good for you for finding something that grabs your attention and sticking with it - and learning many different things along with way!

thanks Maddog and Mama - yeah CBG's have many gifts that go beyond just building a box with a stick.

Lonman thats pretty huge the reading and study thing. Thats one thing I love about them if you want to you can keep learning more and more.. I never used a soldering iron or even had strung a guitar before getting into CBG's.

I have always enjoyed blues music and guitars. I came across CBN over a year ago now while researching resonators. What I saw was very cool and things I have only heard about. So, I too joined this hobby. The biggest thing this hobby has done for me is probably helped me increase my reading ability. I never have been one to have the attention span to sit and read a book, but with this and the heightened blues interest, I have been reading more now than other time in my life. I also get satisfaction and making something from hand and it turning out to be something very playable and enjoyable. Like said by folks earlier, I have seen some folks get the wow face when they see what I have done and play for them. The learning factor too. I have learned much about guitar related stuff I never knew. Lots of good stuff at the CBN.

A small degree, eh Ben??? ;-)

I think CBG's have given me another outlet to do something I love which is working with wood, I have been a contractor my whole life so working with wood is something I'm comfortable doing. I enjoy the honesty of woodworking. Pretty simple really, building something we invision in our minds. I never draw prints or drawings of the CBG's I build and I never build the same exact thing twice. That keeps it fun for me as the wheels are always spinning in my head of my next build. I can do something I love and make a little cash doing it so it's the perfect hobby if you ask me. Probably one of the biggest thrills for me is when we go to shows, I never get tired of people's reaction's when they see and play the stuff I have built.

Another thing that has changed for me is the fact that I have been able to discuss and learn this great avenue with some of the nicest people anywhere, everyone here in the Nation.

Uncle John and I got to meet last week for the first time and I believe I have found a new friend that is just as passionate about the CBG world as I am. I am looking forward to many get togethers and jam sessions with John. It will be nice to have someone so close (we live an hour apart) to visit with and learn from.

A lot of things in life make me happy, building CBG's and learning to play them brings me peace.

Cool group Penny, Thanks!

CBGs have had some small degree of effect on my life, I suppose...

Hey Penny - I've been slow to catch up here on the nation, but I just saw this group invite and thought "WOW!  What a GREAT idea" for a group!  Thanks for setting this up!!!  I could go on all day about how CBG's have changed my life.... but I wait to post something when I can condense it to a reasonable length....  I think I have CBG building and acquisition syndrome (CBGBAAS) and need a 12-step group to help me "recover."  Actually, there are much worse things to be addicted to in this world, so I think I will stay with this one.  No recovery necessary!  Thanks again for setting this group up!  Best, MM

Thats very moving Hal thank you for allowing us a window on your grief & the healing that your involvement in CBG's . Its awesome that they have bought you back to your dad & the things that mattered. Maybe thats what roots music and intruments do for us? Take us back to the roots of whats important.

I can also totally relate though my story is a little different. I learnt what few woodworking skills I have from watching my father. Being a girl in the 1960's there was no way that I was allowed or encouraged to build anything. I was only allowed to sit on a stool, be quiet, and not touch anything. When my father passed away a couple of years ago my brother and I dividied up his tools. most of the power tools of course did not work but I have a few. I'm now making up for lost time... not only mucking about with tools but making things that make noise. I wasnt enouraged to learn an instrument as a child as it was noisey & pointless. So now I'm enjoyiing being noisey & pointless in my spare time. What I did learn from Dad was measure twice, cut once. Whilst he was busy imparting the knowledge to my older brother the annoying little girl in the corner was taking it all in. As everyone on this site knows there is nothiing pointless regarding CBG's. They lift the spirits, provide so many opportunities for learning & the sense of community on this and other CBG sites is awesome. And thank you guys - cause not once have I ever been made to feel like the annoying female trying to participate in a boy zone.

Like Hals, Be's story is also inspirational as well. Regardless of any physical limitations from back issues she never uses that as an excuse to back down from the challenges of building or indeed playing in public. How awesome that something so simple can promote such change & healing for people.
